Planning an Adirondack waterfall elopement is perfect for couples who want a wedding day that feels relaxed, adventurous, and completely centered around what matters most. This summer Adirondack Mountains elopement in Wilmington, NY blended family, laughter, waterfalls, and a full day of meaningful experiences, proving that an elopement can be both super fun and intentional.
Alisha and John reached out wanting something easygoing, memorable, and inclusive of their daughter and honestly, that’s exactly what Adirondack elopements do best.

Getting Ready Together at Wolfjaw Lodge in Wilmington, NY
We started the morning at Wolfjaw Lodge in Wilmington, where they chose to get ready together instead of separately. The vibe was calm and cozy. Coffee brewing, pastries on the table, and absolutely no stress about needing to be anywhere but in the moment.
John quickly became the unofficial master of the ironing board (a role he fully embraced), while the three of them laughed and eased into the day together.
Outside, the Adirondack Mountains were showing off, like always. Low fog lingered between the peaks as sunlight began pouring through the trees, creating those soft, magical morning rays that make Adirondack mornings feel magical.

Hiking to an Adirondack Waterfall Ceremony
Once ready, we packed up snacks, bathing suits, and their elopement gear and headed toward their waterfall ceremony location. The trail is slightly steep but very doable, making it a perfect adventure without feeling overwhelming.
Along the way, a few lookout spots gave us incredible views as the morning light filtered through the forest, one of the many reasons summer is such an incredible season for an Adirondack waterfall elopement.

Private Vows at the Base of the Falls
At the base of the waterfall, Alisha and John each found their own quiet boulder to write their vows privately. The sun warmed the rocks while the sound of rushing water filled the space around them.
Even from a distance, I could see the smirks forming as they wrote. I knew humor would absolutely be part of their vows.
When they were ready, they stood together with their feet in the water and their daughter beside them at the base of the falls. Laughter echoed through the gorge as they read their vows, creating one of those moments that felt completely natural and personal.
Their daughter proudly handed them their rings (thankfully none were sacrificed to the waterfall), and just like that they were officially married.
They sealed it with an epic dip kiss that felt like it was out of a movie.

Waterfall Adventure Portraits & Cliff Jumping
After the ceremony, we explored the boulders surrounding the falls, soaking in the sounds, warmth, and stillness of the moment. They splashed into the water for playful prompts before the real adventure began.
In true Adirondack fashion, they scaled multiple levels of the waterfall and even jumped off a cliff into the swimming hole below, easily one of the most badass post-ceremony celebrations I’ve ever witnessed.
They splashed and played with their daughter before we captured quieter, romantic moments of just the two of them together as the waterfall cascaded behind them.
It was fun, joyful, badass, and definitely them.

Pizza in Downtown Lake Placid
After drying off and heading back to the lodge to change into their afternoon outfits, we made our way into downtown Lake Placid.
Our stop? Bazzi’s Pizzeria, because nothing says celebration like oversized pizza slices after a waterfall adventure. They fed each other bites, laughed nonstop, and fully leaned into the laid-back energy of the day.

Arcade Games & Family Time at Fazie’s Fun House
We wrapped up the afternoon at Fazie’s Fun House Arcade, where the day turned into an all-out family competition. Games, laughter, and a little friendly rivalry made the perfect ending before they headed off to enjoy the rest of their evening together, including a round of golf to close out their wedding day.

How to Plan an Adirondack Waterfall Elopement
If you’re considering your own Adirondack waterfall elopement, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Summer is ideal for waterfall access. Trails are fully open, water levels are beautiful, and swimming spots become part of the experience.
Choose locations that match your comfort level. Many waterfall hikes are short and manageable while still feeling adventurous.
Elopements can absolutely include kids. Building activities into the day like hiking, swimming, pizza stops, or arcades keeps the experience fun and meaningful for everyone involved.
Work with a local Adirondack elopement photographer. Having someone who knows trail conditions, lighting, and hidden locations makes the entire day smoother and far less stressful.
